Tell Government Members to end the koala wars now!

I urge you to do everything possible to keep the Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Private Native Forestry) Bill 2022 from seeing the light of day in this final week of parliament.

These laws would be a huge step in the wrong direction and a kick in the guts for all of us in NSW who love our precious koalas and are desperately trying to save them from extinction.

We know that the core threat to koalas is the ongoing loss and fragmentation of their habitat. This Bill would make it easier for koala habitat to be cleared on private land and would undermine the power of councils who are trying to protect koala habitat in their regions.

Local Government NSW has written to the Premier calling for the Government to not proceed with this latest attempt to remove dual consent for PNF.

They say: “The Environmental Planning and Assessment Amendment (Private Native Forestry) Bill 2022 has been rushed into Parliament without any consultation with local government and risks devastating impacts on environmental protections on important habitats, especially for threatened species.”

Right now, in the dying days of this term of Parliament, the Liberal/National Government is once again taking up arms in the koala wars.

The National Party's Dugald Saunders has proposed new laws that would be a death sentence for our endangered koalas if they are allowed to pass.

But he’s underestimating us if he thinks he’ll get away with this without a fight.

Back in 2020 when Barilaro introduced his koala-killing bill, tens of thousands of you mobilised to stop it. Together we successfully campaigned, leading to Liberal MP Catherine Cusack to cross the floor and stop those laws in their tracks -- now koalas need you again.
