Native Forest Logging's Time Is Up

Dear Premier and Treasurer,
I was shocked to learn that the Forestry Corporation have lost a further $32 million in the last financial year alone logging our precious public native forests. 
This is just the latest in the downward spiralling economic trend of native forest logging. The reported loss of $32 million last year is $87,000 per day to destroy our precious public native forest ecosystems. The Forestry Corporation is incapable of turning a profit from native forest logging and is in fact haemorrhaging public money, costing the people of NSW tens of millions on a routine basis. 
But it’s not just about the money! Logging our native forests is driving the extinction and climate crisis, making our communities more at risk of extreme wildfire, putting our water supplies at risk and stealing landscape resilience from all of us.
Continuing to log our native forests means that we are losing the opportunity to reduce our emissions by around 76 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent,  jeopardising our ability to meet our important legislated climate emissions reductions targets. 
So many of our forest dependent species are edging so close to extinction it’s frightening. Some of our rarest and most unique animals rely on forests and the hollows in mature trees to survive. The only way for animals like the Greater Glider, Yellow-bellied Glider, Koala and many other animals to survive is if we stop logging their forest homes.
The recent work of the Australian Labor Government and the Australian Greens means that under our national environmental laws, Forestry will no longer get a free pass. This is massive, because it is highly unlikely that any logging operation in NSW could ever meet any national environmental legal standards. 
The writing on the wall is clear. Native forest logging is an industry of the past, it;s time to stop and you must act now to ensure the transition support for impacted workers and communities as a matter of priority.  
Please Premier and Treasurer I urge you to act now, before it really is too late.

The latest Forestry Corporation report shows that public native forest logging has once again run at a massive financial loss.

This time it has cost a STAGGERING $32 million of taxpayers money in just one year.

That is $87,000 per day to destroy our precious public native forests and worsen the extinction and climate crisis. This is your money, and the Labor Government needs to stop using it in this reckless and destructive way.

Logging our precious public native forests has not produced a single dollar of profit in NSW for almost a decade, and it likely never will. Yet somehow the destruction of these vital ecosystems has been allowed to continue. It is time to call it for what it is - an industry of the past that must be stopped now.

The recent work of our Greens MPs with the Australian Labor Government means that under our national environmental laws, Forestry will no longer get a free pass. This is massive and means that winning our campaign to end native forest logging in NSW is getting very close.
