Nature in NSW is in crisis. Koalas are sliding toward extinction, ancient forests are being logged, and vital ecosystems across the state are collapsing under pressure.

When Labor came to power, they promised to do things differently. They promised to create the Great Koala National Park. They promised to protect the environment. But two years later, those promises are being quietly abandoned.

Right now, forests that were meant to be protected are being destroyed for profit — including forests critical to the future of koalas. Meanwhile, frontline environmental agencies remain underfunded and underpowered, struggling to stop habitat destruction, pollution, and climate damage across NSW.

This isn’t a failure of resources — it’s a failure of political will.

That’s why the Greens are pushing the NSW Government to get serious about protecting nature — not just with words, but with funding, legislation, and bold action.

We’re calling on Labor to:

• Immediately end native forest logging and protect the full 176,000 hectares of public forests in the proposed Great Koala National Park

• Increase core funding for national parks, conservation agencies and the Environmental Protection Authority so they can do their jobs properly

• Support Indigenous-led land and water management, including the return of land and funding for ongoing cultural care

• Deliver strong, enforceable laws to stop environmental destruction and pollution

• Reverse biodiversity loss by properly funding ecological restoration and protection across the state

These are the policies we need to stop the extinction crisis. They are fully costed, ready to go, and backed by science. What we need now is leadership.
