In a shock move, Premier Chris Minns is giving away the right to shoot on public lands to the gun lobby in a desperate political trade off - we have to stop him.
The Minns Labor Government will support the Shooters Party to create a new ‘Conservation Hunting Authority’ - a publicly funded propaganda arm of the gun lobby that will enshrine a so-called ‘right to hunt’, promote recreational hunting over genuine conservation programs, and allow night shooting on public lands with weapon silencers and other prohibited weapons.
This new authority will be stacked with gun lobby members and conservation groups won’t even get a seat at the table. This is the Game Council 2.0 - and it’s being rushed through Parliament this week in exchange for Shooters votes on other changes to the workers compensation laws to abandon workers with psychological injury.
The original Game Council was abolished in 2013 after a scathing review found political interference, public safety risks, and systemic governance failures.
CALL THE PREMIER & MINISTER
Premier’s contact:
02 7225 6000
Minister for Agriculture's contact:
02 7225 6120
Minister for the Environment’s contact:
02 7225 6020
Tell them you don’t support dirty deals with the gun lobby. Make sure you remind them that the law they are supporting will:
- Create a statutory authority that can only promote hunting - even when it harms the environment.
- Grant hunters access to public land at night, using silencers and other prohibited weapons.
- Enshrine a ‘right to hunt’ in NSW law.
- Pave the way for a ‘Minister for Hunting and Fishing’.
- Silence conservation organisations and scientists who oppose this agenda.
This is not about conservation and it actively promotes science denialism. This is a backroom deal where Labor is selling off our environment to the gun lobby.
We cannot let this happen. Send an email to the Premier, and every Member of Parliament, to tell them “NO to the Game Council 2.0, and NO to dirty backroom deals with the gun lobby”.
