TELL THE PREMIER, YOU STAND WITH RISING TIDE!

Dear Premier and Minister
I am writing to you to express my support for the Rising Tide movement, and the People’s Blockade of The World’s Largest Coal Port in Newcastle. 
As you know, climate change is an existential threat to human civilisation and to the predictable functioning of the natural world. The primary driver of this threat is the continued burning of fossil fuels, of which Australia and NSW is a significant contributor through our exporting of coal to the world. I am sure you have read the most recent State of the Climate 2024 Report by the CSIRO and the BOM!
It is due to the significance of the impacts now and threatened that we must do more and that Rising Tide and the broader community are compelled to take direct action through protest and occasionally peaceful civil disobedience. The community must be allowed to exercise their implied right of political communication, and actions by your Government are currently trying to stop this from occurring. I urge you to ensure that the Government allows these protests to go ahead, and that they be extended legal protections through the Form 1 system - as is afforded to other protest actions.
There has been a significant attack on the right to protest in NSW over the last decade, something that has been rightly criticised by civil rights groups, the organised worker movement, and communities that are acting to protect the natural world. Your Government should take steps to reverse the draconian conditions placed on protest in NSW.
The community of NSW supports peaceful protest, and understands that necessary change is needed to the structure of our economy, to limit the worst degree of impacts caused by global warming. Please act to stand with the community on this issue, and join me in standing with Rising Tide.

The People’s Blockade of the World’s Largest Coal Port will be happening this November, but NSW Labor Premier Minns is trying to shut it down.

The organisers, Rising Tide, are a brilliant, creative, inclusive, grassroots organisation who, with so many climate warriors, managed to shut down Newcastle Coal Port last year for 32 hours. This year, the NSW Police are dragging them through the court in a bid to prevent the protest from going ahead - an outrageous overreach by a Labor Government that wants to protect fossil fuel barons and punish climate protests.

And tell Labor Premier Chris Minns, that his attacks on protest will not be forgotten and that the people who elected him, expect climate action and their right to protest protected.
